It is hard for Al Stevens to believe that he celebrates his 40th Anniversary as a Square Dance
Caller this year (1998). He has a distinction of calling a Square Dance in every State in the USA, as well
as in 26 different foreign countries. His unique style of calling has been enjoyed by hundreds of thousands
of dancers during his career. Al has been recording artist on major Square Dance label since 1970. He has
recorded over 77 singles, 2 cassette tapes and did a cut on a sound Documentary Album of Basic Movements,
produced by the American Square Dance Society, in 1977.
Al has made significant constributions to the Modern Western Square Dance Movement in Europe since he arrived 20 years ago. He currently calls for four regular clubs, and keeps a travel schedule of 45 weekends per year full. Al has worked for the European Callers and Teachers Association, serving on their board for 10 years. He currently serves on the Board of Governors of CALLERLAB, the only international Square Dance Association in the world.
